Short answer: No. More Spaces buckets don’t multiply the included allowance. DigitalOcean’s pricing docs describe one Spaces Standard Storage subscription at $5.00 per month that includes 250 GiB of storage across all of your buckets and 1,024 GiB of outbound transfer shared between all buckets. The built-in CDN has no extra charge, but its traffic counts against that same transfer allowance.
Scope: Spaces Standard Storage only, read from DigitalOcean’s public "Spaces Pricing" and "Bandwidth Billing" docs, checked October 13, 2026, 05:52 KST (October 12, 20:52 UTC). Cold Storage and other DigitalOcean products are not covered. This is a reading of published docs, not our test. We haven’t opened a Spaces account, created a bucket or seen anyone’s invoice.
The shared meters, in one table
| Meter | What the docs say it covers | What you enter |
|---|---|---|
| Base subscription | $5.00 per month; one subscription lets you create multiple buckets | 1 subscription |
| Standard storage | 250 GiB included across all buckets; extra at $0.02 per GiB per month | All buckets’ billed Standard storage, in GiB |
| Outbound transfer | 1,024 GiB included, shared between all buckets; extra at $0.01 per GiB | Counted outbound from all buckets, in GiB |
| Bucket count | Not an allowance multiplier | (not a cost input) |
| CDN and origin transfer | CDN at no additional cost; CDN, origin and origin-to-edge transfer all count | Include CDN delivery in the transfer row |
| Droplet uploads | Inbound to Spaces doesn’t count against Spaces; Droplet-to-Spaces traffic does currently count against the Droplets’ own outbound allowance | Check your Droplet transfer separately |
The docs meter in GiB. Don’t swap in GB figures from another tool without converting.
A worked example (fictional numbers)
Say you plan two Standard buckets of 150 GiB each for a full month, and 1,400 GiB of counted outbound transfer, CDN delivery included.
| Line | Arithmetic | USD |
|---|---|---|
| Base subscription | flat | 5.00 |
| Storage over 250 GiB | (300 − 250) × 0.02 = 50 × 0.02 | 1.00 |
| Transfer over 1,024 GiB | (1,400 − 1,024) × 0.01 = 376 × 0.01 | 3.76 |
| Modeled subtotal | 5 + 1 + 3.76 | 9.76 |
That $9.76 is our arithmetic for these made-up inputs, not a quote, an invoice, a cap or a forecast. It assumes full-month usage and leaves out Cold Storage, Droplets and other resources, taxes, credits or discounts, and any account terms we can’t see. If each bucket had its own 250 GiB, both 150 GiB buckets would fit inside it. They don’t: the two buckets draw on one storage pool and one transfer pool.
Not every DigitalOcean route is free
Some traffic doesn’t count against your Spaces outbound allowance, but only under stated conditions. Don’t assume a path is free because both ends are on DigitalOcean.
- The docs list specific region pairs where outbound from Spaces to Droplets is free, for example "From Spaces in NYC3 to Droplets in NYC1, NYC2, and NYC3." Check the full exception list in DigitalOcean’s Spaces pricing doc for your regions.
- For private traffic, the Droplet must use the VPC-local DNS resolver. The docs say private Spaces traffic is available in all regions, and within the AMS, NYC and SFO region groups a Droplet can also reach buckets in other datacenters of the same group. Droplets that use external DNS resolvers (such as Google or Cloudflare) reach the public endpoint, and standard bandwidth billing applies.
- Traffic between regions in different groups, such as a Droplet in NYC and a bucket in SFO, uses the public endpoint and is billed at the standard rate.
If you also run Droplets, they have their own pooled transfer allowance. Our DigitalOcean Droplet monthly-cap worksheet covers that side. For a different provider’s egress model, see our Cloudflare R2 free egress vs. bill check.

FAQ
Does a new Spaces bucket come with its own 250 GiB? No. The docs say the base subscription includes 250 GiB of storage across all of your buckets.
Is CDN traffic free because the CDN is included? No. The CDN has no additional cost, but the docs say transfer between the origin and edge servers is counted as part of your transfer allowance, and the allowance covers both CDN and origin bandwidth.
When does Spaces billing stop? The docs say billing begins when you create your first bucket and ends when you destroy all your buckets, with the bill prorated hourly. Removing files from a bucket isn’t described as ending billing.
